Ottawa is Canada's capital which is near Montreal and the U.S. border. The city has a walkable downtown area with great public transport links, international music festivals and in the cold weather, ice skating rinks.

November temperatures range from highs of '60's to lows of 40's....so bring along jackets.

From an educational perspective for adults and kids, check out the Parliament buildings which have grand Victorian architecture, the National Gallery of Canada which contains noted collections of indigenous and Canadian art, the Canadian War Museum which exhibits the country's military history and Rideau Hall which is the landmark house of the Governor General. If you have a car, check out Kiweki Point which has city views and is also a perfect sunset look-out.

An easy way of seeing all these sights plus more are to travel on the Ottawa hop on hop off bus which has a 1 day pass.

When it is time to eat, do check out Byward BT Market at 69 George St. A busy outdoor market with so many tastes and smells, it can be hard to decide what to eat.

Try a beaver tail which is a fried-dough pastry made of whole wheat flour hand pulled to look like a beaver's tail, topped with cinnamon sugar and whipped cream.

Even though it is fall with cooler temperatures, and if you are fancying ice cream,  go to Moo Shu Ice Cream & Kitchen at 477 Bank St. They offer small batches of ice cream made with pure Ontario dairy, scratch made cones, with Asian-inspired flavours! And of course, try a poutine that is chock full of gooey curds of cheese...absolutely delicious.

If the Rideau Canal has frozen, join all the other hundreds of people skating...a fun friend/ family thing to do.

The eco-friendly Best Western Ottawa is centrally located in Ottawa which makes it easy to access so many events.  The breakfast has an extensive menu with a varied supper menu. After a day's sightseeing /working/travelling, relax in the pool.

Enjoy your stay in the history rich town of Ottawa.
