Many travel plans have changed in the wake of COVID-19—travel restrictions, global shutdowns, and flight disruptions have people staying closer to home this summer. It's not the year most hoped for during their new year's eve countdown, but that doesn't mean you can't make the most of an unexpected situation.

Although events across the city have turned virtual, the city boasts many parks and outdoor spaces that still make it incredibly enjoyable to travel within Ottawa.

To cure, or at least lighten, the pandemic blues, try these three activities with your family for a safe and fun staycation in Ottawa.

Adventure Doesn't Stop With Ottawa City Rafting

Ottawa City Rafting re-opens to provide an exciting and safe rafting experience for water adventurers. In adherence to government measures, Ottawa City Rafting clearly outlines its strict COVID protocols to ensure guests can have a fun time without worrying about their health and wellness.

Social bubbles of 6-9 guests can enjoy summer on the water with a 3-hour rafting trip that travels down the Britannia to the Deschenes Rapids. Get a spectacular view of Parliament Hill, in between fighting through wild rapids.

Get Lost in Saunders Farm

Explore the tall hedges at the Saunder's Farm Maze for an experience that keeps you on your toes. Saunder's Farm is an award-winning farm, renowned for hosting popular events throughout all seasons on its 100-acre lot. As Ottawa moves into Phase 3, Saunder's Farm opens up its maze, along with a few other attractions, to all guests.

For the safety of its guests, walk-ins are no longer allowed. Attendees are required to book their ticket online, to limit the number of people on the Farm at all times.

Drive to the Drive-In

While most conventional cinemas are still closed, there are two drive-in movie theatres in Ottawa that are satisfying movie-goers' quench for a new flick. The drive-in theatre at Place des festivals-Zibi Gatineau and Wesley Clove Parks welcomes guests and their vehicles to enjoy a movie night outdoors. Catch old classics or the latest films all from the safety and comfort of your car.

Limited spaces still apply, along with new COVID measures. Be sure to check each website for the latest protocols.

With these activities happening, travel in Ottawa sounds exciting, even under the pretense of a global pandemic. We at Best Western Plus, Ottawa City Centre, hope you can rediscover your city safely and with newfound awe. Spend your nights in our hotel to make your staycation feel like a true getaway. We have strict measures in place to provide the utmost safety and cleanliness for our guests. Book your stay for an escape while at home.
